OpenAI has launched a new feature in ChatGPT that allows users to connect their cloud storage services like Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive. This new capability is part of the Deep Research tools and helps users search and analyze documents without leaving the ChatGPT interface.
With this update, professionals can now ask natural language questions such as “Show me the latest customer feedback deck” or “Where’s the backend logic for image uploads?” and ChatGPT will fetch and analyze documents from connected platforms in real-time.
How the Integration Works
OpenAI added this feature to make it easier for users to access important information without constantly switching between apps. It brings external files directly into the AI chat window, saving time and improving productivity.
The integration works through a secure login process. Users must:
- Select Deep Research from the ChatGPT composer menu.
- Pick a platform such as Dropbox or OneDrive from the dropdown list.
- Sign in and give permission to connect the account.
Once connected, users can search their files directly using natural language, and ChatGPT will respect existing file permissions and visibility settings.
Supported Platforms and Access
ChatGPT currently supports integration with the following platforms:
- Dropbox
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Microsoft SharePoint
- GitHub
- Box
However, access to these integrations is limited. Only users on Team, Education, and Enterprise plans can use the connectors. For now, Plus and Pro users do not have access. Some restrictions also apply to users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK, depending on the service.
Privacy and Security
OpenAI has clarified that it does not permanently store any user files. Instead, it sends keyword searches to the linked services and retrieves files as needed. All searches and results stay within the user’s permission levels, and no files are synced or kept by OpenAI.
Enterprise Benefits
This feature is designed to support enterprise use cases. It allows teams to analyze reports, codebases, and other content stored across different tools—all from one place. By combining natural language understanding with cloud access, ChatGPT becomes a more powerful tool for business and research.
As OpenAI continues to expand its integrations, this launch marks a key move in making AI more practical and useful inside organizations.
