SonicWall has unveiled a new range of firewalls and a managed cybersecurity service aimed at addressing evolving threats, especially attacks on non-standard ports.
This move follows insights from SonicWall’s 2019 Cyber Threat Report, which highlighted a rise in cybercriminals exploiting both traditional and unconventional network vulnerabilities.
The new firewall lineup extends protection to over 40,000 registered ports, addressing both standard and non-standard configurations. Unlike traditional firewalls, which focus on common ports like 80 and 443, these firewalls employ artifact-specific analysis for more efficient defense.
Alongside the firewalls, SonicWall introduced a managed cybersecurity service featuring automated password rotation, two-factor authentication, and patch management. This service provides a multi-layered security approach to counteract the growing ineffectiveness of relying solely on port obscurity.
According to the 2019 report, attacks on non-standard ports increased from 17.7% in 2017 to 19.2% in 2018. The new service aims to provide continuous monitoring and rapid response to evolving threats.
Both offerings integrate SonicWall’s Capture Labs’ threat intelligence for real-time updates, enabling proactive adaptation to emerging attack methods.
The new firewalls and service will be available to enterprise customers next month, with specialized versions for small and medium businesses to follow.
